Flowella

Project
Flowella was a desktop prototyping tool built for Nokia to give mobile interface designers a faster, more intuitive way to wire up and test interaction flows. At a time when mobile UX was still defining its own tools and language, it closed the gap between a static screen design and something a team could actually experience, discuss and improve.
Role
I developed the original concept, led the interaction design and managed the project through development. Working in Flash, I helped shape Flowella into a tool that felt genuinely useful to mobile designers, then secured funding, promoted the project publicly and eventually open-sourced it so others could build on it.
Impact
Flowella was reviewed by Tardigrada as a rapid prototyping tool for mobile designers, a useful signal that it was solving a real workflow problem at a time when there were few strong options. Winning funding and then releasing it as open source helped extend its reach beyond the original commission.
Technology
The tool was built in Flash and focused on making mobile interaction flows quick to assemble, test and refine, at a time when mainstream prototyping tools for small-screen experiences were still limited.
Collaborators
- Nokia
- Imagination
Outcomes
Built a desktop prototyping tool for Nokia that helped mobile designers test flows quickly and earned external recognition from Tardigrada.
