Project

The Dock is Accenture's multidisciplinary research and incubation hub in Dublin, bringing together designers, developers and specialists in AI, analytics and IoT. Fjord London was commissioned to design the digital system for the facility, creating the connective layer across the building's spaces, infrastructure and day-to-day use.

Role

I was Lead Creative Technologist, working alongside the Lead Service Designer to guide a team of 15 designers, developers, user researchers and testers. Together we devised, built and installed the digital system that supported staff and guests across the 60,000 square foot connected building, with the work featured at The Dock's opening in November 2016.

Technology

The system orchestrated 10,000+ sensors, 75 digital screens, five Skyfold walls and 454 movable workstations into a joined-up workplace experience. Web technologies acted as the glue across the building, with React, Redux, Node.js, SVG, WebGL, Microsoft Kinect and multiple IoT APIs supporting the platform.

Outcomes

Delivered the connected workplace system featured in The Dock's 2016 opening, supporting 454 movable workstations across the full facility.
