Science Museum Tables

Project
An interactive installation at the Science Museum London, created from scratch in partnership with Itch. Visitors explored games and simulations built around difficult questions about the future of science and society, from genetic choice and robot care to weather engineering and orbital debris.
Role
I was part of the design and development team building the table experiences, contributing across interaction design and implementation. The work involved pushing Director to its limits to create responsive 3D graphics while also integrating custom electronics that detected wheel turning and button presses within the table interface.
Approach
The tables were designed not to hand visitors answers, but to involve them in the argument. Playful interaction, physical controls and responsive graphics made complex scientific and ethical questions feel approachable and urgent, helping people leave with a view of their own rather than a lesson delivered to them.
Technology
The experiences were built in Macromedia Director, combined with proprietary electronics that detected wheel turning and button pushing. Together they created robust, tactile museum interactives with surprisingly ambitious 3D graphics for the time.
